SIVA IMR Pod Explained

In simple terms, the SIVA IMR pod is something similar to the ELTA Systems-developed ELM-2060P radar targetting pod, and it will be used for location of static ground targets/installations. The fact that the DRDO’s PJ-10 Project Office is the nodal agency for developing the IMR pod indicates that this pod will be used in conjunction with the BrahMos-NG (previously known as BrahMos-Mini) air-launched supersonic cruise missile.
While DATA Patterns Pvt Ltd has won the contract to series-produce the BrahMos-NG’s on-board X-band monopulse SAR seeker, the X-band monopulse SAR suite meant for installation inside the IMR pod will be produced by ECIL Ltd.
Systems integration and flight qualification of both the BrahMos-NG and SIVA IMR pod will be jointly undertaken by the Indian Air Force’s Bengaluru-based Aircraft & Systems Testing Establishment, HAL’s Nashik Division, BrahMos Aerospace and IRKUT Corp, which is the sole IPR owner of all operating software source-codes used by the Su-30MKI. Service-induction of this weapon system is not expected before 2020.
The existing SIVA HADF pods is used primarily for real-time detection and location of hostile ground-based air-defence radars, with the targetting cues then being uploaded into the Kh-3P anti-radiation missile’s on-board mission computer. This very same pod will in future also be used in conjunction with the DRDO-developed NG-ARM.

Are we taking any steps to address the AW-101's absence sir? Why can't we just go for th L2 contender (S-92)? It is already being built in part in india and I'm sure we could get it within a year.

The current situation just isn't sustainable.

“The Indian Navy have displayed a keen interest in cooperating with us both in the sphere of surface and submarine fleet, starting from issues of purchasing ready-made equipment and localization of its production in India,” Potapov said on the sidelines of the Defexpo India 2016 exhibition. He did not specify the equipment in question.

"We will also have a launch of Nirbhay with BrahMos seeker in December," he said.

Sir, have you seen the confession video of kulbhushan yadav ?
Can't GOI do anything to help him ?
Feeling bad for him, may god give him strength

Prasun sir,
Regarding the confession of mr kulbhusan, though i highly doubt that he is a raw agent but even if there is a slight chance that he may be.....aren't they supposed to be tough and strong....he seems like he give in too early....he is just repeating the lines pakistanis made him cram.....he is a retired naval officer....he should know the fact that by doing this he is only opening the gates of hell for himself.....they are gona hang him sooner or later on terrorism charges....i know that he is afterall a human being and can be broken by torture or fear for the lives of his loved ones....but i believed that armed perssonals are trained to resist such torture during capture..... I know that u may feel that i m being childish.....but he really give in too early and he doesn't seem physically hurt. It looks like he is just tryin to save his own arse......just want to know your point of view... And to all the fellow readers..i want to clear it out that i meant no disrespect to him. Its just my observation and so please don't get me wrong...

Will the MRSAM/LRSAM combination be enough to thwart saturation strikes from China? And do we have enough BrahMos in service to launch similar saturation strikes on multiple Chinese sites?

hi prasun
After the army has rejected the akash sam for the barak. Does it mean it has selected the spider system for shorads. Will this take care of all the air defence needs. Is there any possibility of the derby and python being made in India ?
Then investing billions in another sraam with mbda will be a waste?. MBDA seems keen on that I feel that we will be reinventing the wheel and making another mica missile to the glee of MBDA.

Prasun K. Sengupta said...

To KRISHNKANT: The Indian citizen was kidnapped/abducted from international waters off Iran. Don't believe anything else. We have seen several such staged confessions before. If he was really what the Pakistanis claim him to be, then by now all his local 'accomplices & facilitators' too would have been paraded & their confessions made public. So just relax. Obviously he is under enormous psychological pressure & everyone makes such confessions under such circumstances.

Will be back tomorrow after attending DEFEXPO 2016. Plenty of updates & photos of new products on display, especially in areas like field artillery, FICV, FRCV, L & T's AIP module, updates on small arms competitions, L-70 upgrade, OFB's 155mm/52-cal version of the Dhanush (whose 1st prototype was ready for trials way back in 2011), Pinaka Mk2 & replacement of its TCS with a new GNSS-based option, MMR W-band seeker of HELINA, definitive full-scale model of the Sudarshan LGB, etc etc etc.

Hi Prasun da,

it is really worrying to see one of our citizens, that too an ex-Naval person, having to undergo grueling pressure. In your opinion what is best to get him out of trouble, lest not repeat Sarabhjith saga. He has embroiled himself into deeper troubles by making such a confession, because he openly 'confessed' to be part of terror campaign. Spying is a different story when compared to terror. It wont be easy to get him out now, because there would be public pressure to not barter him. In my opinion, Pakistan should be given a taste of its own medicine by a factor of 100. We have to strike them where it hurts most, so that this kind of games are not played regularly from now.

will be awaiting your take on DEFEXPO 2016...

thanks and regards,

Sreenivas R.

Prasun da, I wanted to know is there any chance of a fully integrated mast on P-17A. I mean has something moved in that direction?

Whatever it is but it seems that India is going to repeat the victory of Bangladesh in Baluchistan and Sindh as well. ISI like ISIS is going to get trapped in its own web.

Hoping the next post on DEFEXPO 2016 will explain the artillery procurements in more detail, along with the other ground systems on display there.

I remember you saying something about there not being enough movement in manufacturing of supporting equipment like this, I presume it would be a positive development in that regard.

Prasunda, there was an incident few years back at Barrackpore where an ex army jawan was caught for spying. The fellow was lured by some Pak Intelligence Operative who pretended to be an IB officer and told him that GoI wants to monitor army activities for which they gather intelligence through other sources and match up the data with that provided by army HQ. The army jawan thought that he has been employed by IB and provided data of army unit movements to his handler. I think the same thing might have happened with Kulbhusan Yadav. ISI duped him in pretext of being a R&AW agent, tactfully kidnapped/trafficked him into Pakistan through Iran. The so called joint secretary, R&AW, MR Gupta is none other than an ISI handler in disguise. ISI tried fix two target; first- disrupt chabahr port construction and indian involvement,. Second- stage a drama of R&AW involvement in Baluchistan to justify killing of its own people. A detailed investigation of Yadavs bank account and money trail will uncover the whole thing. Actually no Pakistani lives in his senses. Pakistan army knows verry well that anti india sentiments and disturbance are the oxygen for their existence as peace would strengthen civil administration which could be the worst nightmare for pak army. Pak army never that much scared of strong Indian Army as they are scared of their own peacfull pakistan and strong civil society/govt. This time they released the footage to pressurise Nawaz Govt to stop all peace process with India. You can never convince a Paki the fact that most harmfull enemy of Pakistan is their very own army.
